WaterTower Theatre invites local AEA and Non-AEA actors to audition for the comic 1 person play. The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe by Jane Wagner, being presented during the 2024-2025 Season. Open to both Equity and Non-Union actors. See below for detail on the production:
All positions are paid. Actor will be paid Equity (SPT 6) rate & the Understudy will be paid Non-Equity rate ($150 per week with $40 bonus per performance should the understudy go on for the role).

Jane Wagner’s ever-timely, iconic, one-woman show, The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, examines American society, art, and human connectivity and explores the feminist movement. As one actor transforms into a series of other archetypal characters, they become the play’s guiding conscience for the audience—a comical, quirky, and outlandish conveyor of the nuances of American society. Under the guidance of this beloved narrator, a role originated by Lily Tomlin, the audience is treated to a mischievously clever observer of the society around her. Lily Tomlin's one-woman tour-de-force won The Drama Desk Award and The New York Drama Critics Circle Award as well as a Tony for Best Actress.

SEEKING:
ACTOR & UNDERSTUDY: Extremely versatile comic female-identifying actor, age range 30-50, to play 13 different characters with very disparate personalities with unique backgrounds over the course of the 2 act play.
WaterTower Theatre is dedicated to diversity and inclusion as a core value, and as such we strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and gender identities to submit. In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
